The aim: To give heifer calves the best possible
start in life.
The results:
- Take advantage of each new-born calf's immense
potential for growth and feed conversion efficiency
- Bigger and better-developed calves
- 125kg live-weight at three months old
- Develop strong early immunity to disease
- 25% lower cost than whole milk
The key points:
- Make sure EVERY new-born calf gets three litres
of colostrum (ideally from its own mother) within
the first six hours from birth
- Feed colostrum for the first three days
- Then feed 2.5 litres/calf of Elevator milk replacer twice a day,
mixed at 375g powder plus 2.125 litres water (ie 15% milk solids
when mixed)
- In cold weather (below 4°C), increase milk powder to 500g plus
2.125 litres water at each feed, to cover the calf's increased maintenance
requirement
- Day three onwards, offer HST Elevator Calf pellets (contains NuStart)
- Wean as soon as eating 1.5kg/day of pellets and continue ad-lib
pellets to three months old
- Make clean straw and fresh water available constantly
HST Elevator includes:
- NuStart gut conditioning package, in both milk
powder and pellets, to encourage dry feed intake
and early rumen development
- High protein, medium fat levels in milk powder (compared with whole
milk's 4% fat and 3.2% protein, Elevator milk replacer is 2.6% fat
and 3.9% protein) to stimulate growth, development and appetite,
NOT bloom
- Full supplementation with vitamins, minerals and trace elements
- High quality protein (35% DUP), high starch + sugars (30%) and
high calcium in the calf pellets
